　　Nowadays, owing to the abundance of information available online, it is rather easy for students to acquire knowledge without attending school. This trend makes some people argue that the function of school can be replaced by the Internet, but I disagree with this statement.

　　It can be justified that the Internet is playing an irreplaceable role in modern education. This is because youngsters can take advantage of such sophisticated technology so as to be frequently exposed to a wide range of online resources through the use of vigorous search engines and interactive learning platforms such as Google, YouTube and National Geographic. In this way, they are offered valuable opportunities to opt for any subject in accordance with their own interests and talents, which facilitates them in gaining a multi-dimensional awareness of contemporary situations and having an in-depth comprehension of events both at home and abroad.

　　However, this does not automatically imply that the role of traditional education would be supplanted by the Internet. After all, it is impracticable for this modern tool to perform all of the functions of a formal school. For this reason, the value of school education can never be negated in terms of children’s upbringing. On the one hand, school is more than a platform where knowledge is imparted; it is also a place where well-experienced teaching professionals provide concrete support and guidance to help these immature minds shape values and attitudes, as well as distinguish right from wrong. On the other hand, when accompanied by peers, students tend to be more extrovert and sociable, which would benefit them with regard to establishing interpersonal relationships with others in the future. Moreover, school attendants are likely to be tolerant and respect their classmates through after-class collaboration activities, which are critical for their emotional development.

　　In conclusion, in spite of the convenience and merits of studying at home, I am of the firm opinion that schools are indispensable as the younger generation should achieve other improvements along with intellectual development.
