In many countries, there is an impending trend that cycling is no longer a popular transportation method among the populace. While everyone has disparate reasons behind the transformation of their travelling preference, I will attribute this phenomenon mainly to two causations. Also, I would give some suggestions to revive the lifestyle of cycling.

I will firstly see the trend towards the obsolescence of bicycles as a symptom of troubles to which the people’s bias for alternative transportation modes as an answer. Given the robust development of public transportation, whether it be the expansion of subway or bus network, the majority opt to travel by these more comfort means of transport. Not to be left behind is the fad for private cars among younger generations, who venerate driving as a more fashionable travel mode. In addition, or maybe as a result, the ubiquitous vehicles on the roads also leads to people’s reluctance to travel by bikes for safety apprehension.
While the obsolescence of cycling has been frowned upon in modern society, I will say there still something we can to do to curb this trend. One suggestion is to launch campaigns to create awareness about the health benefits of travelling by cycles – such an approach can evoke people’s consciousness of the relevance of cycling to a less sedentary lifestyle. Another measure can be the construction of more cycling lanes, which will mitigate people’s worry about safety when riding on the roads.
From what has been discussed above, it is my conclusion therefore, people’s reluctance to ride cycles is the result of the emergence of new means of transportation. In response to this, media campaigns on healthy lifestyle and supportive infrastructure design are needed to tackle the affliction.
