Walking is certainly an exercise that appeals to a vast majority of individuals and it is one of the most efficient ways to keep fit. Nevertheless, there has been a decreasing trend of people taking strolls on a daily basis, whereby this phenomenon will be explored and possible solutions will be presented.
One critical reason that individuals are not walking enough is that they have busy lifestyles as studies and work take up a significant proportion of their waking hours. Within present-day society, there is mounting competition, which has required students to study more diligently in order to enroll into the most prestigious educational institutions and workers must find and keep their jobs, which are in limited supply. Furthermore, maintaining a sedentary lifestyle has become the norm as numerous professions require employees to sit in front of computer screens for the whole day, not to mention entertainment and transportation facilities are more convenient.
Moreover, as people have more responsibilities with work, studies and family, they claim they don’t have sufficient time to exercise. In order to curb this alarming trend, in the first place, school boards need to incorporate walking into the daily schedules of students including adding more physical education classes or going on short field trips by foot around their communities when the weather permits. Furthermore, employers must ensure that workers have enough time to take breaks and even provide exercise equipment such as treadmills for employees to have more opportunities to walk. Last but not least, governments should promote the benefits of walking to the public and influence citizens to drive less, walk to nearby places as well as create walkways for residents to use around the city.
All in all, walking is one of the most helpful and easily accessible exercises that humans can do that promotes mental and physical well-being. In order to encourage walking, educators, employers and government ought to provide the means for residents to walk in order to better their health.
