By offering three benefits in ecology, economy, and scientific research, the reading passage claims that marine enhancement program is necessary to prevent the extinction caused by an excessive amount of fishing. However, the listening material totally refutes the passage with three reasons.
The reading first claims that this program could protect the environment and increase the number of species. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that this practice could reduce the genetic diversity and subsequently cause similar genes in species. In this case, marine animals are more likely to suffer from various diseases.
Secondly, the reading passage conceives that this enhancement program is beneficial to the economic development. Contrary to this belief, the listening says that it is not practical to release fish and then catch them. Take a kind of salmon as an example. It is never possible to catch them again if let them go. So, this program actually cannot bring as much economic profit as the government expects.
In the final analysis, the writer in the reading asserts that this program could also help scientific research. The professor in the lecture, on the contrary, points out that the fish being released and those being caught have different reactions to predators, so the result of the scientific research is not accurate.
