  Hello

More and more plastic is polluting the cities, countryside and oceans. What are the problems caused by plastic waste? What measures should be taken to solve it?

In the past few decades, plastic pollution has become one of the main concerns in the world, with millions of people disposing plastic garbage everyyear. While modern industry has undoubtedly benefited hundreds of thousands of people globally, it has unfortunately caused some environmental problems, one of which is destroying ocean creature’s habitat. As a result of this, people need to take actions to stop this phenomenon immediately. As far as I am concerned, if people continue using plastic products uncontrollably, there will be two main problems in the foreseeable future. First of all, it is the shrinking habitat,no matter for people or for animals. Since such products are undegradable, it is arguably impossible for them to be reusedby nature, just like their degradable counterparts. People can do nothing but just dump such garbage in the wild, where they do not have to pay for the rent or purchase. It is widely reported that people’s habitat is now shrinking because of the ever-expanding size of garbage, especially the plastic one. What is worse, it kills wild animals unexpectedly. Many news and documentaries report that plastic items, such as straws or bags are strangling the ocean creature. Many turtles cannot breathe because a small plastic straw is stuck in their nose, and many seagulls were dead because their stomach is stuck with plastic items. Many of them ate those products by mistake, which most likely stay in their bodies for months, years or even for the rest of their life. In order to solve this problem, everyone needs to work together. People need to start from themselves. They need to realize the importance of sustainable development. If they cannot stop using all of the plastic products immediately, they can do it step by step. For example, they can prepare their own shopping bags, or else the staff at the supermarkets will give them as many plastic bags as they could, in order to ensure the customers’ satisfaction with their shopping experience. Secondly, the government is supposed to enactlaws and effectively enforce such laws in order to punish those people and companies who litter irresponsibly. Canada can be used as a good example. If people were found not classifying their garbage correctly, they would face a fine ranging from 500 to 1000 dollars each month. To avoid such fines, most people would not mind going through such troubles, and they would tend to recycle their garbage according to the governmental orders. With everyone contributing their effort, this problem is likely to be successfully solved. It is high time that both governments and individual citizens realised the urgency and took actions responsibly.
