The government now plans to establish some car-free zones in the center of the city. Some like this plan for they believe it can help eliminate traffic congestion, while others dislike it because not being able to reach places like stores and restaurants by car is very inconvenient to them. What do you think of this plan and why?

Cities across the nation and the world are experimenting with the attrition of automobiles by closing certain streets and areas to cars. Some people are pleased by this pedestrian friendly change while others are concerned that it might pose a threat to the prosperity of the department stores and shopping malls since it is troublesome to travel without a car. From my perspective, cities are better off with car-free zones in downtown areas.

To begin with, traffic jams will be greatly alleviated to allow a more enjoyable and quality life for residents. It has been so ubiquitous to depend on cars around the world that people are forced to accept the less satisfactory experience of traffic congestion, delays and road angers, which is preposterous given the fact that most people rely on cars even if the destination are accessible via public transportation and walking. Besides, combining mass transit system with bicycling or walking, commuters and consumers will lead a more active lifestyle instead of sedentary one, which is condusive to their immune system and overall cardiovascular performance.

Secondly, Stores and companies will benefit from this initiative by updating their quality and service. It is just a matter of time to cultivate people’ s habits in adopting greener modes of transportation. A more systematic and comprehensive transit network will definitely allure consumers to employ it, since the punctuality and better value for money are more desirable than attaching to the less preferable way of traveling. What ’ s more, the most valuable competitive edge of any shop or store, is the combination of product quality, cost advantage and hospitable service. As a matter of fact, those who take advantage of this car-free policy and renovate their store using elements of open-air space and gardens tend to profit much more than those who are not willing to embrace change and reluctant to innovate .

Admittedly, some might argue that this car-free practice would impair the supply chain of the business, exerting an adverse impact on shops and stores. However, their concerns are unfounded, since cities are equipped with a great variety of modes of transportation such as metro, bus and bicycles. Certain hours could be arranged to be supply chain moments so that most of the time the city is pedestrian friendly. Disabled people could acquire special grant for using micro-mobile vehicles.

In conclusion, it is definitely a progress to set up car-free zones in city centers. With less traffic blockage and more efficient transportation, .people will become healthier and more productive while stores will be more innovative and artistic. Smart street planning and regulations will make the world a much safer and delightful place.
