Both the reading and the listening discuss about effects of re-manufacturing products. The reading raises three arguments to support it, while the lecturer holds a totally different viewpoint.

First, as the reading suggests, re-manufacturing benefits companies by decreasing the total expenses. However, the listening points out that since the re-manufactured goods means lower quality, companies are forced to sell their products in lower price, imposing an adverse impact on their profits..

Second, the reading mentions that re-manufacturing products promotes employment. The listening, on the other hand, argues that because remanufacturing requires more sophisticated skills such as cleaning, repairing and testing, which majority employees do not possess, it is hard to generate job opportunities.

Third, the lecturer also illustrates that re-manufacturing is not environmentally friendly. Compared with producing new items, re-manufacturing old articles means much more oil consumption, especially those products made five years ago.
