　　Museums and historical attractions sites are often been regarded as the places where people can seek historical knowledge and expand their horizon. The majority of their visitors, however, are the tourist instead of the local residents. In this essay, reasons contribute to this phenomenon will be analysed and possible solutions will be probed to stimulate local people’s interests.

　　It is understandable that local museums and historical sites are mostly visited by tourists instead of the local. Firstly, local residents are more familiar with their cultural heritages, they believe that visiting museums and those historical attractions is not of necessity. With the money saved from the admission tickets, they may choose to visit other places where they have never been before. Further, by visiting these places, tourists can learn local history fast within limited time; besides, one of the major aims of building local museums and historical sites is to attract tourists so as to develop the tourism. Therefore, as the target group, tourists’ needs will be considered primarily in both these two places rather than the local residents’.

　　Measures can be taken to enlarge the flow of local residents. One main solution is to enrich the diversity of activities and add new elements to the original form. These new alterations would be appealing to both local residents and tourists. Apart from that, offering preferential prices to local people is also a feasible solution. Last, massive media report about the museums and historical sites also can ignite the people’s interests to visit.

　　To conclude, visitors of museums and historical sites should not just be tourists. Measures should be taken to intrigue local people’s interests.
