　　It is true that the modern world is moving in a direction where home appliances are playing a more import role in people’s daily life. While this trend is applauded by many people, I would say that we should not be too optimistic when considering its detrimental effects on individuals and society.

　　Superficially, the trend of electrified life does seem to benefit the both individuals and economy. At an individual level, the trend liberates many housewives from routine housework, allowing them to do something more meaningful: mothers can spend more time and effort to focus on their beloved babies while leaving the cooking to multifunctional cookers and microwave ovens. Also, in the eyes of entrepreneurs, what concerns them most is the increased revenue thanks to people’s increasing dependence on electronic appliances; a further reward worthwhile to mention is the job opportunities created in sectors like manufacturing, retail and even after-sale service.

　　However, these benefits mentioned above should be considered from an opposite angle. Back to the individual aspect, rather than liberating people from mundane work, their over reliance on the smart gadgets has also resulted in the decline of basic problem-solving ability when coping with housework in reality – were it not for the smart appliances, some youngsters even fail to prepare a simple breakfast. Another problem we cannot afford to ignore is the environmental problem ensued: while businesses enjoy the dividend of growth in sales, what will ensue is tones of abandoned and defective electric gadgets. Given that the material of these electrical waste is non-biodegradable, they will stay in landfills for centuries; if the trend continues, there will be one day when our planet will be buried by the electric waste produced by ourselves.

　　In conclusion, I would say that our convenience brought by electric appliances should not be at the sacrifice of the self-reliance and environment.
