I believe that the true reasons lying behind the different attentions between male and female athleticism, though sometimes misguided, are still direct and understandable; however, the outcome of this is never easy to be considered positive or negative.

While there are always people out there, sadly, holding extreme views in terms of the sexual discrimination, this, from what I see, is certainly not the truth. Feminists may easily link the lopsided focuses to the unequal rights for the both genders, accusing more privileges enjoyed by man and blame that the entire society takes this trend for granted. There is certainly no need to be such extreme and pessimistic, because the differentiation just sources from the physical conditions; men and women are physiologically behaving differently in most sports activities, and the differences in the final performances then lead to the leaned preferences. Male sportsmen, are always more powerful and stronger than women in their bodies, and that makes the competition of the former more attractive because what the audience wants in their watching is always the most powerful, dramatical and conflictive scenarios in athleticism—the viewers are always excited to see persons break the physiological limit that is extremely far beyond what people can imagine, and fight with their rivals who are with more outstanding, say, explosive forces or spring abilities. Therefore, it is not surprising that male sports professionals are gaining closer attentions: people are more visually satisfied and investors are then more likely to pour their money on male practitioners, since a larger proportion of focuses would bring about more commercial values. The aforementioned trend, ergo, is certainly based on different body potentials one can present, but not the biases—there are also areas, e.g. fashion, that favor women more, since they can generate more profits by their edges and own giftedness; physical quality prevails.

This phenomenon is then hard to be judged in terms of its merits or blights, but is somewhere in the middle, since it happens naturally, and hasn’t, by far, prompted any direct harms or contributions to either sex. Some may fear that if the male sportsmen still overwhelm the athletic fields, they may be fed with more money than those females who are striving for a same level of achievement; this is mainly because males can gain a larger quantity of investment and public exposure if they are preferred—they are more likely to be put into commercials and advertisements—and that is supposed to lead to a lack of confidence of those females who devote themselves into the sports career. The reality is, however, that the deficiency in terms of such marginal benefits never decides the emergence of truly outstanding female athletes: what they want is a life pursue with the refunds of not only financial resources, but also the sense of fulfilment and achievement. They surely have understandable payments based on what they have done, they gain their reputation and pay off whenever they are setting up new records, and they do harvest what they want because there are still admirers who are willing to giving out their applauses to their heroic moments, no matter what gender they are; the attentions may be less, but this also, to some extent, purifies the female sports atmosphere—practitioners do this for their own enthusiasm, but not other deviated purposes.

In conclusion, I would certainly believe that the true reason of why men and women attract lopsided attentions in the sports field is made by their physical differences, and that is hard to be considered a negative development.
