　　Rapid growth in demand has given rise to power shortages, and the reliance on fossil fuels has led to much air pollution, by which I mean the impetus for nuclear power in some countries such as China,Russia and France is increasingly due to air pollution from coal-fired plants.However, the merits and demerits of nuclear energy have made this alternative energy source one of the most controversial on the market today. Personally,I believe nuclear power is a crucial energy resource to meet the future demand.

　　First of all,nuclear power can be considered as an ideal choice to replace thermal power in terms of the raw materials. On the one hand, despite the high investment of constructing nuclear plants, the average life span of nuclear power is approximately 20 years longer than the general thermal power station, and meanwhile the efficiency of generating electricity is also much higher, that is to say, the feedback after completing the nuclear station is impressive. On the other hand, compared with other alternative power such as hydro power, wind power and solar power, there is no intermittent and less constrained conditions, by which I mean the utilization of nuclear can guarantee the sustainable and stable supply of energy regardless of the weather or geographical situations.

　　Besides，nuclear power can be regarded as an environmentally friendly energy source. In other words, during the procedure of generating the electricity, the carbon emissions will not be emitted ,which would have otherwise been enormous resulted from the burning of fossil fuels in thermal power stations.This would give rise to alleviation of the global warming as well as the contamination of atmosphere.

　　There are，however，some obvious disadvantages of nuclear power. Despite the high level of sophistication of the safety systems of nuclear power plants, the human aspect has always an impact. Facing an unexpected event or managing a nuclear accident , a disastrous failure might happen somewhere. However, with the technological advances, all these shortages can be strategically addressed in the future.

　　In conclusion, in spite of the drawback caused by the current technology,it seems to me that the nuclear power can be an irreplaceable option to satisfy the future power demand mainly because of its high efficiency and environmentally-friendly characters.
