　　University enrollment is on the rise in various parts of the globe and higher education degrees are in great demand. Meanwhile, students need a place to stay while pursuing their studies. Certain college-goers choose to live at home with their families while others study in different cities, of which the pros and cons will be presented.

　　Living at home can be quite comfortable as youngsters are already familiar with the surroundings and their family members. This familiarity and level of comfort has the potential to reduce outside distractions and enables young people to fully focus on their studies in a conducive environment. Moreover, families do not need to spring for extra accommodations such as renting a nearby apartment or paying fees to live in a dormitory, which can reduce the overall financial burden for parents. Youngsters can enjoy the best of both worlds by not having to miss their relatives when studying far away, yet they can also spend time with their friends and classmates at school, a win-win for all parties.

　　On the contrary, if students go to other cities to study, they can learn how to be more independent rather than always rely on their parents. For instance, young people need to cook, clean, wash clothes and purchase items all by themselves. They can understand the hardships their parents face and gain an appreciation for the difficulties in raising children and being self-sufficient. University students can also experience a brand new lifestyle if they study in different cities, which can also be a part of the educational experience.

　　Overall, from my point of view, it is difficult to state that living away from home is more beneficial than staying with one’s family, as both positives and negatives are offered, which completely depends on individual circumstances.
