从小就认识的居里夫人对于这位发明的镭的伟大物理学家和化学家,我们一定早就耳熟能详。她的故事不仅在小学课本中收录,在剑桥9的Test4Passage1中,也以The life and work of Marie Curie为题,讲述了她的工作和生活。
坎坷的居里夫人求学之路居里夫人生于一个中学教师的家庭,从小就以惊人的记忆力出名,16岁完成了中学学业时还获得了金牌,但是她往后的求学之路并不是一帆风顺的。这也是该篇文章判断题第3题的考点: Marie was able to attend the Sorbonne because of her sister’s financial contribution. 判断“玛丽能够去Sorbonne (巴黎大学)是由于她姐姐的资金援助。”这句话是否正确,根据定位词Sorbonne定位,就会发现一个姐妹互帮互助的故事:Because her father lost his savings through bad investment, she then had to take work as a teacher. From her earnings she was able to finance her sister Bronia’s medical studies in Paris, on the understanding that Bronia would, in turn, later help her to get an education.

死于白血病毫无疑问玛丽·居里的一生做出了许多杰出的成就,但令人惋惜的是,居里夫人因长期受到辐射而患病去世。‘Marie Curie died as a result of leukaemia caused by exposure to radiation.’
在文中还提到,She had often carried test tubes containing radioactive isotopes in her pocket, remarking on the pretty blue-green light they gave off. 也就是说,她经常把装有核辐射同位素的试管放置在口袋中,并跟人们谈论同位素放射出的漂亮的蓝绿色光芒。
在当时,人们对于放射性元素的了解还是比较有限的,其中就诞生了不少现在看来很雷的“镭品”
