It is known to all that the technological and scientific advances have made greater changes

to the range and quality of our food. Some people regard it as an improvement while others

believe that the change is harmful. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

  范文

Scientific advances have an impact on many aspects of our lives, including food. I believe

that the increase in food varieties can be beneficial to mankind, although there are some

problems. The development of food technology can be beneficial to the health of many people. This is

because they are provided with a wider range of high-quality choices to adopt a balanced

diet. For example, some perishables such as fruit and vegetables can be preserved and

made available for people in cold climates. Some diet supplements have also been

developed to improve the nutrition of our diet and promote our well-being. On the other hand, some people argue that the application of advanced food technology can

pose health risks, although it can give us more options in our diet. Genetic engineering, for

instance, modifies the genetic characteristics of natural crops, but the health consequence

of eating these crops is yet to be known. In addition, some chemicals have been used to

increase the shelf life of some foodstuffs, despite the fact that these chemicals can harm our

  health.

In my view, the agricultural industry is able to feed a growing population because of

technological advances. The main reason for this development is that technology makes a

variety of crops resistant to pests and diseases and also enables these crops to grow faster. This can boost food production. These emerging technologies are especially important for

developing countries or heavily populated countries, where many people suffer from

  malnutrition.

There is an increasing amount of advertising directed at children which encourages them to buy goods

such as toys and snacks. Many parents are worried thatthese advertisements put too much pressure on

children, while some advertisements claim that they provide useful information to children. Discuss

both views and give your opinion.

  MODEL:

Over the years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of ads targeting children

because the advertisers are aware that kids are the center of nuclear families. As a result, many parents are worried about this phenomenon. However, some advertisers claim that

they provide beneficial information to children. Admittedly, in sensitive areas such as the toy industry, some censorship should be there to

limit children’s access to excessive advertisement as children under a certain age lack

abilities to make wise judgment as to what they really want. They are attracted by colourful

pictures on advertisement and swayed by misleading information. So they pester their

parents to buy those things and this can upset the

budget of many families. Even the advertisements of fast foods are detrimental to children. This is because children tend to believe that the slim model eats the food he/she endorses

and is still so fit. Some of them even believe that eating such food will help them acquire the

shape of the model. On the other hand, advertisements provide necessary information to the children. For

instance, the advert of Colgate toothpaste, which tells us to brush our teeth twice daily, is

good for children. Then there are some ads about education like Byju’s learning application, which help children to improve their academic score and learn their subjects with better

illustrations. Moreover, some advertisements also highlight the importance of saving water

and electricity, keeping our surroundings clean and planting trees. Children are motivated by

these ads and try to follow them. To conclude, it is imperative that regulations be imposed on advertisers which make false

claims. However, advertisement is indispensable in this highly competitive market and

produces much more positive effects than negative ones to the society as a whole.
