参考范文:
We currently live in a consumer society, which emphasises the importance of the relentless consumption of goods and services. In that sense, the endless use of cheaper goods that may only be used for a short time should be responsible for the waste.
One of the reasons is that these products are not as expensive as before. Technological innovations and mass production have reduced the cost of production and improve the productivity of the workforce. Some electronic products such as mobile phones and computers are now sold at low prices and this is why many people would purchase the newest products, instead of fixing broken ones. Young people, particularly, prefer to purchase the latest mobile phones with up-to-date features and throw old ones away, although they may use them for merely few months.
Another reason is that using these products brings great convenience. These products, mainly disposable ones, have been popular and used widely among consumers. For example, consumers can use plastic bags to carry what they have picked in a supermarket and office workers can enjoy their delicious food with one-off chopsticks. People usually discard these items after they have used, which has led to what some people refer to as the‘throwaway society’.
As such, the continued waste of resources will lead to an inevitable depletion of the consumer goods that growth and jobs depend upon. A reduction of resources will have a severe effect on the economic model and, unless dealt with effectively, will lead to both economic and environmental breakdown. Furthermore, the global environmental deterioration resulted from overconsumptions may also exert adverse influence on our health. This may be a much high price required for the short-term pleasure and even something we do not really need at all.
Thus, the convenience and the cost have lead to forming the current society, where people frequently throw what they have just bought away. This will inevitably bring some environmental, economic and health problems.
