Since the advent of movies, the general public have showcased a passionate interest in this form of entertainment. In the modern society, numerous films are adapted from books authored by some well-renowned writers. For the sake of a better cinematic understanding, the sequential order of watching the film versus reading the relevant book has created quite a stir in society. To my understanding, it is more desirable for people to read the original book before going to the theater.
It should be admitted that the audience can to some degree appreciate the movies without reading the book ahead of time. Today, with plenty of young people occupied with their work, watching flicks is a favorable way to wind down. The movies which are shot based on the books are at times hard to understand, but the viewers, due to advanced techniques of film making or lifelike 3-D effects, are still capable of latching on to the schematic plot line.
Nevertheless, in terms of some classic films, it is necessary for individuals to read books before seeing movies. The movies of this type, as a matter of fact, are often laden with complex twists and turns and profound meanings, which are difficult for the moviegoers to gain a deep understanding. If they can read the original story in advance such as “Wuthering Heights”, they can dig into the movie more profoundly and objectively, so that the subtle changes of feelings, facial expressions and character traits, which are often ignored by those without reading the very book, can be better sensed or felt in the movie theater. It is in the process of watching that viewers even can imagine themselves behaving like a certain leading or supporting actor, in that they have already known the story inside.
Additionally, perusing the book in advance makes the audience appropriately assess whether a movie is well produced. Armed with background knowledge from the book, the audience can better comprehend if the director has well captured the traits of some characters and mental activity. A certain blockbuster, for instance, if a person is not informed of the book-based contents, might leave him superficially thinking that the leading actor is impossibly handsome or head over heels in love with his lover. Nonetheless, an avid reader who has seen the film can find fault with the film making, suggesting that some parts of the movie defy logic and the descriptions presented in the book. The appraisals of a movie would vary from person to person, but we need to acknowledge that a well-prepared viewer---having read the corresponding book---can better weigh up the pros and cons of the movie.
To put it in a nutshell, despite rest and relaxation derived from watching movies without reading original books, the reading-based film watching, from my point of view, should be highly recommended. Objectively speaking, understanding and assessing a film deeply can add spice to our lives(482words).
